That semblance is shattered when a new veterinarian roars into the park in his spiffed up sports car and sets his golden gaze on her. If she had her way, he'd roar right back out.

Zane Marshall, Enforcer for the Pacific Pack of purebred werewolves, has a job to do - figure out who or what is mutilating the young men of Plum Beach.

With orders to find the woman who talks to animals, he accepts a position working alongside the fiery Chloe Carpenter, a female who ignites his interest far more than he ever expected. Remarkably, she's the one elusive female with potential to bring meaning and passion to his empty existence.

Q: Tell us about the most emotional scene you've ever read in a book - and how did you react?
Gaah, what a question. There are so many of them that it's hard to pick one. It's  going to have to be two.
The first one is the reunion of Sirius Black and Harry Potter and the hope that follows this new relationship. It's made all the more emotional by the horrendous outcome in the fifth book.
The second happens at the end of Delirium. I'm not going to share what it is because of those who may not have read it, but those of you which have will agree. It's heartbreaking!

Deadline Time

It's getting to that dreaded time again, where deadlines are due and everyone's stress levels hit the roof. Unfortunately, this means that my reviewing may be a little slower. It may mean that my blog looks a little neglected for the next 3 weeks. It went well last deadline period where my blogging was quite therapeutic and an awesome break away from the criticism and essay writing that comes with an Ma.

What might happen is an increase in Harry Potter posts where I am fighting to stay on top of the research for that Dissertation. Not promising anything though, my time is 100% consumed by Angela Carter's gender exploration and Run Lola Run. Meh, meh, meh

Harry Potter Moment of the Week #5

This is a meme hosted by me here at my blog :).The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! I will be picking a topic within HP to focus on per week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! This weeks is a quote:

“That which Voldemort does not value, he takes no trouble to comprehend. Of house-elves and children’s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing. Nothing. That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped.”

J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I love this quote. It's one that is going to feature quite heavily in my dissertation on Potter. It summarizes the key difference between Harry and Voldemort, between the sacrifice made by Lily Potter and the traitorous love potion created by Merope Gaunt. I think this is one of the most important, if not the key themes within the series; that of morals, tolerance. It's such a touching quote, something that I think a lot of us can relate to.

Mila 2.0 (MILA 2.0, #1)

Synopsis
Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.

Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity-style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Harry Potter Moment of the Week #4

This week I am going to focus on a Harry Potter event/ moment outside of the actual literature:

The Day I Met J. K. Rowling
Honestly, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! I met her at the Bath Literary Festival on the 8th and I couldn't believe it was my idol sat up on the stage talking about her wonderful books! It was completely surreal and I feel so incredibly lucky to have been given the chance. I'm hoping I get a similar chance at some point in the future!

Sarah J. Maas - 'Crown of Midnight' Arrgghhhh!!

Literally just got so excited I've given myself hiccups... awkward! BUT, I was just trawling through Amazon clicking through a few freebies/ cheap e-books and I came across this:

Eighteen-year-old Celeana Sardothien is bold, daring and beautiful – the perfect seductress and the greatest assassin her world has ever known. But though she won the King’s contest and became his champion, Celeana has been granted neither her liberty nor the freedom to follow her heart. The slavery of the suffocating salt mines of Endovier that scarred her past is nothing compared to a life bound to her darkest enemy, a king whose rule is so dark and evil it is near impossible to defy. Celeana faces a choice that is tearing her heart to pieces: kill in cold blood for a man she hates, or risk sentencing those she loves to death. Celeana must decide what she will fight for: survival, love or the future of a kingdom. Because an assassin cannot have it all . . . And trying to may just destroy her.
Love or loathe Celeana, she will slice open your heart with her dagger and leave you bleeding long after the last page of the highly anticipated sequel in what is undeniably THE hottest new fantasy series.

I have no idea if that's the new cover or anything but I got soooo excited and it says release date is 20th of August, 2013! Arrghhhhh! :D I HAD to share this with you guys :D

There’s no real point—she believes her government knows how to best protect its people, and should do so at any cost. But 95 days before her cure, Lena meets Alex, a confident and mysterious young man who makes her heart flutter and her skin turn red-hot. The Day I Met J. K. Rowling!

First of all, ARRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! That was frickin' amazingggggg!!! I honestly feel so unbelievably honoured to have had the chance to meet one of the biggest figures and influences of my childhood. Such a lovely, down to earth, honest woman! I don't even know where to start with this post and what to tell you guys, I'm still shaken by the event itself even though it was on Friday.

I think I'll start off with showing you guys the small amount of (not great quality) photos that I have :). We weren't allowed to take photographs during the actual interview itself but were allowed to snap a few before and after. I was disappointed but then again totally sympathetic. I can imagine it would get quite annoying after awhile. ANYWAY, photos:

Harry Potter Moment of the Week #3

This is a meme hosted by me here at my blog :).The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! I will be picking a topic within HP to focus on per week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! This weeks is dedicated to one of my favorite books of the series in celebration of World Book Day!:

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3)
Harry Potter, along with his best friends, Ron and Hermione, is about to start his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry can't wait to get back to school after the summer holidays. (Who wouldn't if they lived with the horrible Dursleys?) But when Harry gets to Hogwarts, the atmosphere is tense. There's an escaped mass murderer on the loose, and the sinister prison guards of Azkaban have been called in to guard the school...

I love everything to do with this book. It introduces one of my all time favorite characters and I even adored the film (despite going through a 'grr films aren't as good I hate them' faze). This is the first book where I feel that we truly explore the entirety of Harry's angst and the issues that have been raised because of his past. It's such a moving book and I still remember that absolute feeling of hope on the introduction of Sirius as a potential father figure for Harry.

Waiting on Wednesday #18

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine , which allows us to show off the books we cannot wait to get our hands on. This week I thought I'd do something a little different and show you a literary event that I CANNOT wait for!

J. K. Rowling on The Casual Vacancy - Bath Literary Festival 08/03/2013

Myself and my partner are attending this Friday and I am sooo unbelievably excited! I can't wait to hear all that she has to say on her new book and to hopefully get a book signed! Totally fan-girling out about this, it's going to be amazing to be in the same room as the woman that created Harry Potter, a series which has been such an important part of so many of our childhoods :).

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW: 'The Holders' - Julianna Scott

 photo tourgraphic-Small.jpg

The Holders - Julianna Scott Blog Tour!
Today's the release day, yay!! Congrats Ms. Scott!

Synopsis

The Holders (Holders, #1)
17-year-old Becca has spent her whole life protecting her brother - from their father leaving and from the people who say the voices in his head are unnatural. When two strangers appear with apparent answers to Ryland's "problem" and details about a school in Ireland where Ryland will not only fit in, but prosper, Becca is up in arms.

She reluctantly agrees to join Ryland on his journey and what they find at St. Brigid's is a world beyond their imagination. Little by little they piece together information about their family's heritage and the legend of the Holder race that decrees Ryland is the one they've been waiting for. However things are not as clear as they once were, and everyone is in for a surprise that will forever change what they thought they knew about themselves and their kind.

My Review: 5/5*

*This book was given to me by Strange Chemistry in exchange for an honest review*
I don't even know where to start with this review. This book blew my mind, I couldn't put it down! It is such an incredibly book and a hell of a debut! Congrats, Ms. Scott :). All I can say to begin is thank you for writing this book, and thank you Strange Chemistry for sending me this book. I definitely do not want to give ANYTHING about this book away in this review, meaning it's probably going to be fairly short unfortunately!

The novel's main protagonist comes in the figure of Becca, the elder sister to Ryland, a little boy who has been receiving constant visitors from psychological institutions because of his hearing of voices. Despite this, they are both certain that there is nothing 'strange' going on inside his head. Nothing a psychologist or school could fix anyway! Scott's introduction of her protagonist and her little brother was incredibly compelling. Becca was instantly smart talking, sassy, and certainly didn't put up with any rubbish from the institutions. The sibling relationship is evidently strong and I instantly liked her. It's always so refreshing to come across strong, female figures. Especially ones which are loyal to their loved ones and aren't afraid to stick up for what they believe in - even if it does occasionally get her in trouble.

“You promise? What are we, twelve? Next I suppose you’re going to pinky swear me that this will all be for his own good, and expect me to let you take him?”
- Julianna Scott, The Holders

The eventual persuasion of Becca by Alex allows Ryland to be taken to the school in which he will finally be able to embrace his gift. The arrival of the two siblings at the school throws their world into turmoil as they discover more about themselves and about their family's history than they counted on. They are flung into the world of the Holders - beings which have various supernatural abilities - and are given more responsibility than they could have imagined. Ms. Scott guides us through her magnificently crafted world of magic, conflicts and love introducting new elements such as Sciath's (an object to allow the user to control their abilities), ability-stealing villains and many twists and turns which keep the reader on their toes.

“I wanted you to love me.” He held my eyes for a second then looked back down, his ears on fire. “But on your own, because you wanted to, not because you felt like you had to.”
- Julianna Scott, The Holders

A tale of trust, responsibility and loyalty, The Holders is most certainly a book to read. This is one of the most captivating debut books that I have read for awhile and am in love with it! Please hurry up and write the next book, Julianna!
